Artist Statement

What I feel makes art so important to me is that it provides a path to express creative ideas that a person can demonstrate visually. What drew me to art as a whole was how there are many methods and techniques to create it in one’s own personal image and does not always have to abide by the rules for recognition. While my interests lie in cartoon art, the concept of art overall is what I consider the driving force of my life that has helped maintain a creative outlet for my ideas. To me, art was something that can be made in various forms with practically no limitations for the final outcome.

Though I have practiced with various art mediums throughout the years such as drawing, painting, and photography to name a few, my current go-to method to create art is drawing in a sketchbook. While photography and painting are not my main art preferences, they have provided me with a more realistic perspective of objects, lighting, and color theory which I feel can help any artist that wants to improve their work. I also practice semi-realism once in a while through sketching and painting, but mainly stick with a cartoon style for a majority of my work. I’ve been fascinated by all kinds of cartoons since I was a child ranging from shows for kids to adults. I was left in awe from how there are multiple ways to experiment with a cartoon art style compared to a realistic one. During my time in high school was when my interests in art became serious and I eventually began to pursue a career in animation as I enrolled into college.
